KANHA NATIONAL PARK
Situated in central India in the Satpura Hill ranges, Kanha National Park, forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created in 1974 under Project Tiger. It is the largest of India's tiger reserves and offers wonderful scenery and the opportunity to view a vast array of wildlife as well as the Royal Bengal Tiger. Spread over 1945 square kilometers with a core area of 940 square kilometers, the grasslands together with Sal and bamboo and meandering streams support mammals such as Barasingha, Chital, Muntjac (Swamp, Spotted and Barking Deer), Sambar, Common Langur and Rhesus Monkeys, Wild Boar, Asiatic Jackal, Nilgai, Four-horned Antelope (Chowsingha), as well as Leopard, Gaur (Indian Bison), Sloth Bear, Wolf and Dhole (Wild Dog). Kanha is noted for being home to India's last remaining population of hard-ground Barasingha.
